Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera isn't done defending quarterback Cam Newton against criticism of Newton's actions before and after the Panthers' loss in Super Bowl 50.

Newton appeared to pout on the field late in the game and then seemed to bail on his post-game press conference after offering only terse answers.

Newton was also criticized throughout his MVP season for his exuberant celebrations, which some argued were over the top and self-serving.

"These are millennials," Rivera said Wednesday in defense of Newton, according to FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo. "When he's happy, he's going to express himself. When he's sad, he's going to express himself."

Rivera went on to suggest that players on losing teams shouldn't have to field questions from the media after the Super Bowl.
