Leonard Hankerson remains unsigned now two weeks after officially hitting the free-agent market, but it still appears likely that he'll return to the Buffalo Bills in 2016.

General manager Doug Whaley told the team's official website at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday that the team is nearing a deal to re-sign the free-agent wide receiver.

"We're really close to getting a deal done with Leonard Hankerson," Whaley said. "We're going to have a collection of guys who have had experience in the league, and have produced in the league."

Hankerson only suited up for one game after landing in Buffalo as a waiver claim in December, but the late-season transaction was almost certainly made with a long-term outlook.

The 27-year-old had hauled in 26 receptions for 327 yards and three touchdowns in eight games spent with the Atlanta Falcons to start the 2015 season.

If re-signed, he'll enter training camp with an opportunity to compete for snaps opposite No. 1 wideout Sammy Watkins.
