Vikings bolster passing attack with Laquon Treadwell

The Minnesota Vikings have selected wide receiver Laquon Treadwell out of Ole Miss with the 23rd pick of the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday.

Treadwell instantly helps the anemic passing attack of the Vikings, a unit that ranked second-last in the league with just 183 yards per game, and gives quarterback Teddy Bridgewater a big target opposite Stefon Diggs.

Vikings wide receivers caught only six touchdown passes last season, and the 6-foot-2, 221-pound target should immediately give the club a viable threat in the red zone.

Laquon Treadwell Bio

Position: WR
School: Ole Miss
College Experience: Junior
Height: 6-2
Weight: 221 lbs.

Strengths

  • Excellent ball skills. Natural ability to track the ball in the air and pluck it out with his hands.
  • Aggressive at the point of the catch and with the ball in his hands.
  • Playmaker. Plays faster in games than he does in practice and workouts.
  • Uses strong upper body to deliver quality stiff arms and create separation against press coverage.
  • Safest option for team looking for a true No. 1 receiver.

Weaknesses

  • Doesn't possess above-average speed. Has to outwork cornerbacks and battle for the ball on most catches.
  • Struggles to contain his emotions during games, leading to loss of focus and unnecessary penalties.
  • Like many college receivers, wasn't asked to run a full route tree in Ole Miss' system.
