The Kansas City Chiefs are actively working towards a contract extension with safety Eric Berry, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Berry was named a first-team All-Pro for the second time after a stellar 2015 season and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in his career.

The Chiefs' star was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in December 2014 but was declared cancer-free in July 2015. Berry responded with an excellent season, recording 61 tackles, 10 pass deflections, and two interceptions in all 16 games.

After a resounding return to action, Berry is expected by many to receive the Comeback Player of the Year Award.

Berry is an integral part of the Chiefs' defense and is the leader of a group that boasts Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters and standout right cornerback Sean Smith.

Kansas City selected Berry fifth overall in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Tennessee.
