Marcus Mariota was hoping to play in the Tennessee Titans' season finale, but that won't be the case.

Interim head coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday that Mariota's injured knee hasn't progressed enough and that it's not worth the risk to have the rookie quarterback play. As a result, he's been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.

"Marcus wants to play, but we have to be smart about it," Mularkey said. "As an organization, we decided it was best to keep him out."

Mariota, the No. 2 overall pick of this year's draft, completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 2,818 yards with 19 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 91.5 passer rating in 12 games.
