Baylor's Corey Coleman declares for NFL draft
Baylor star wide receiver Corey Coleman confirmed after Saturday's game versus Texas that he will enter the 2016 NFL Draft.
"I really love this place," Coleman said as he reflected on his Bears career. "I just thank Coach (Art) Briles for believing in me."
Coleman, a redshirt junior, first saw the field for Baylor in 2013, and immediately flashed the brilliance that would follow in the next two years. In 2015, Coleman reeled in 67 receptions for 1,314 yards and 20 touchdowns, and still has a bowl game on tap, in which he will play.
Coleman spent a good portion of the season on most observers' shortlist of Heisman Trophy candidates. He registered at least 100 yards and a touchdown in Baylor's first nine games of the year, and caught multiple touchdowns in eight of those contests. It took just six games for Coleman to break Kendall Wright's single-season school record for receiving touchdowns (14), and his total of 20 leads the FBS.
Injuries at the quarterback position slowed his production in the final four weeks, as the Bears wound up using their fourth different quarterback this year, and Coleman was held below 100 yards in all four matchups.
Should his pre-draft workouts pan out well, Coleman could hear his name called in the first round of the draft.
