PRO BASKETBALL
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) The defending champion Golden State Warriors set the record for best start in NBA history at 16-0, as Stephen Curry had 24 points and nine assists in a 111-77 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers.
With coach Steve Kerr sidelined following two back operations and interim Luke Walton leading the way, the Warriors surpassed the 15-0 starts by the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets.
Draymond Green added 18 points as the Warriors extended their franchise-record home winning streak to 27 games.
Kobe Bryant shot 1 of 14 and finished with four points. The Lakers dropped to 2-12 with the second-worst record in the NBA.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Oklahoma moved into third and Iowa was fourth in the College Football Playoff rankings as Notre Dame slipped to No. 6.
Clemson and Alabama remained the top two teams in the third-to-last selection committee rankings.
The Sooners (10-1) seem to be in solid shape with only one game to play. Oklahoma is at Oklahoma State on Saturday with a chance to win the Big 12. The Cowboys dropped to 11th after losing for the first time this season.
PRO FOOTBALL
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Peyton Manning will spend the next week in a walking cast and is expected to miss at least two more games with a torn plantar fascia in his left foot.
Manning missed the Denver Broncos' 17-15 win at Chicago last week when longtime backup Brock Osweiler won his first NFL start. Manning stayed back in Denver to continue getting treatment.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) - From starter to third string. Johnny Manziel partied his way out of the lineup during Cleveland's bye week.
Browns coach Mike Pettine benched the polarizing quarterback for his off-field behavior, a move that could signal Manziel's days with the team are numbered.
Pettine said Josh McCown will start Monday night's game against Baltimore in place of Manziel, who was recently handed the starting job but couldn't keep it while the team had a week off.
Manziel's benching comes in the wake of a video surfacing of him partying last weekend in Texas. He had promised not to bring any embarrassment to the team during its week off, but Pettine said he was both disappointed and frustrated by Manziel's actions. The video showed Manziel holding a champagne bottle and rapping profane lyrics in a nightclub.
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Pass rusher Quinton Coples was claimed by the Miami Dolphins, meaning he may get to play Sunday against the team that just released him - the New York Jets.
BASEBALL
WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) - Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes is pleading not guilty to allegations of abusing his wife at a Hawaii resort.
Maui police arrested Reyes after an argument Oct. 31 with his wife that allegedly turned physical at the Four Seasons Resort.
Reyes didn't attend his arraignment on Maui. According to court records, defense attorney David Sereno entered the not guilty plea on Reyes' behalf to a charge of abuse of a family or household member.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Free-agent catcher Geovany Soto and the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a one-year contract.
In another move, former San Diego manager Bud Black rejoined the Angels as a special assistant to the general manager. Black spent seven seasons as Angels manager Mike Scioscia's pitching coach, winning a World Series championship ring in 2002 before taking over the Padres in 2007.
SOCCER
PARIS (AP) - The FIFA ethics committee requested a life ban for Michel Platini, the Frenchman's lawyer said, a move that would rule the UEFA president out of the race to succeed Sepp Blatter.
Thibaut d'Ales told The Associated Press that the maximum sanction was asked for when the FIFA ethics committee investigations unit submitted its final case report.
Blatter could also face expulsion from world soccer over a $2 million payment of FIFA money he approved to Platini in 2011.
Platini and Blatter face separate hearings before FIFA ethics judge Joachim Eckert in December.
AUTO RACING
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Three months after Justin Wilson's death at Pocono Raceway, IndyCar is taking steps to reduce crash debris and improve safety.
The open-wheel series announced it will tether its aerodynamic components beginning next season. The high-tensile tethers are expected to minimize the possibility of debris flying around during accidents and hitting fans as well as drivers in their open cockpits.
HOCKEY
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - The San Jose Sharks signed forward Dainius Zubrus to a one-year, two-way contract.
Zubrus had been on a professional tryout with the Sharks before signing the deal. The 37-year-old had four goals and six assists in 74 games with New Jersey last season. He has 225 goals and 359 assists in 1,243 career games with Philadelphia, Montreal, Washington, Buffalo and New Jersey.
TRACK AND FIELD
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The Russian anti-doping system will go on trial at the Court of Arbitration for Sport next week with two Olympic medals at stake.
CAS will hear appeals from the IAAF on Dec. 2-3 against six Russian athletes, the country's track and field federation and the national anti-doping agency, the court said.
The IAAF is challenging selective timing of bans imposed by RUSADA in January after blood doping was proved.
The cases could mean disqualification for two Olympic medalists from the 2012 London Games, men's 50-kilometer race walk champion Sergei Kirdyapkin and women's 20-kilometer walk silver medalist Olga Kaniskina.
CYCLING
MOSCOW (AP) - Cycling's world governing body, the UCI, cut ties with Russian anti-doping agency managing director Nikita Kamaev amid Russia's doping scandal.
Kamaev's agency, known as RUSADA, was suspended by the World Anti-Doping Agency after a WADA commission alleged that its staff helped to cover up failed drug tests by Russian athletes.
