Report: Patriots' Lewis potentially dealing with ACL injury, will undergo MRI

New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of a knee injury suffered Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

It was reported that Lewis's ACL is loose, although there's no swelling on the injured knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Patriots are hoping that Lewis merely sprained a ligament, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he didn't know the extent of the injury postgame.

Lewis suffered the injury during the third quarter after catching a screen pass, and eventually headed to the locker room.

The Patriots' running back signed a two-year, $3-million contract extension in October, an ostensible reward for his strong start to the campaign.

LeGarrette Blount received the majority of carries in Lewis' absence, rushing for 129 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries. It's likely Blount will become the Patriots' feature back if Lewis is out for a prolonged period.
