NFL denies request from Steelers' Williams to wear pink all season

The NFL is in the midst of its breast cancer awareness month, which encourages player to wear pink accessories.

However, the league told Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams that he can't keep wearing pink accessories for the rest of the season, he said to ESPN.

Williams lost his mother to breast cancer in 2014 and wanted to continue raising awareness outside of the league's designated month.

"It's not just about October for me; it's not just a month, it's a lifestyle. It's about getting women to recognize to get tested," said Williams.

Williams contacted the NFL himself, and was told by NFL vice president of football operations Troy Vincent that there would be no exceptions to the uniform policy of the league.

Williams seems to have found a loophole, however, dyeing the tips of his hair pink for the team's game Monday night.

According to Williams, the NFL doesn't restrict players' hair color as part of its uniform policy, so he should be able to continue doing so all season.

The running back is doing more than just raising awareness - he said he'll also purchase 53 mammogram tests for a hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
