Hue Jackson: Andy Dalton's turning point was getting booed at MLB All-Star Game

Andy Dalton's Cincinnati Bengals are 4-0 in large part because he's been terrific all season.

At the quarter-season mark, Dalton has completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,187 yards, nine touchdowns, and one interception. The missed plays and boneheaded errors that typified his early years in the league are nowhere to be found.

What changed to make Dalton into an All-Pro caliber passer? His offensive coordinator says it could be a moment when fans in Cincinnati booed Dalton at a celebrity softball game played as part of MLB All-Star Game festivities in July.

"I'm not going to tell you it didn't bother him," Hue Jackson told The MMQB. "It did. When you have the success he has had - four seasons in the league, four times in the playoffs - getting booed in your own city, that has to hurt a bit. But he was able to hit one over the fence for a home run. And he flipped the bat. His message was sort of, 'You might not like me now, but you're going to love me later.'"

Dalton certainly hasn't inspired any boos with his performance this season, but the true test for him will come in January. With the Bengals headed toward a likely fifth straight playoff appearance, Dalton should get the chance to earn his first postseason win.
