The Atlanta Falcons released quarterbacks Rex Grossman and T.J. Yates, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Grossman is most famous for steering the Chicago Bears to Super Bowl XLI, where they were defeated by the Indianapolis Colts.

The veteran signed with the Falcons on Aug. 26 on a one-year contract.

Sean Renfree will serve as Matt Ryan's backup.

Grossman last suited up during the regular season in 2011 as a member of the Washington Redskins.
