New York Jets center Nick Mangold makes his living protecting quarterbacks, but he's a pretty good neighborhood watchdog, too.

Mangold is being credited with helping police put an end to a summer burglary spree in his New Jersey neighborhood, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Police said they received a call from Mangold at 5:30 a.m. last Sunday after he heard his car alarm go off and noticed that his garage door was open. Shortly after, officers stopped a vehicle in the area and took five suspects into custody.

There had recently been 48 burglaries of unlocked cars in the neighborhood.

The five suspects, including three juveniles, each face charges of burglary and theft.
