Report: Seahawks' Kam Chancellor willing to extend holdout into regular season

Seattle Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor is prepared to extend his holdout into the regular season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Chancellor is under contract through 2017 and is slated to be paid $4.55 million in base salary for the upcoming season, along with a $1-million signing bonus.

The 27-year-old is considered by some to be the best strong safety in football and was arguably the Seahawks' best defensive player in their run to Super Bowl XLIX.

Chancellor was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, the first of many late-round selections who served as the base of the Seahawks' personnel group that went to back-to-back Super Bowls.

A devastating hitter in the open field who can defend the pass at an elite level, Chancellor's absence would likely have a profound impact on the Seahawks' top-rated defense.

With a sustained run of success, it appeared inevitable one of Seattle's stars would hold out in a demand for more money, leaving general manager John Schneider in a difficult situation.
