Report: Eli Manning wants to be NFL's highest-paid player
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is angling to become the highest-paid player in the game, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Manning and the Giants are engaged in ongoing contract negotiations, attempting to get a long-term deal done before the start of the two-time Super Bowl MVP's final season under contract.
According to Rapoport, Manning is looking to earn more than Russell Wilson (approximately $60 million guaranteed), Philip Rivers (reportedly $65 million guaranteed), and Aaron Rodgers, who received $54 million guaranteed in 2013.
The Manning camp's contention that he should be the league's highest-paid player is reportedly a sticking point in negotiations. A deal is unlikely to get done until Manning's side lowers its salary demands, according to Rapoport.
Manning is one of only three quarterbacks in the league with multiple Super Bowl rings. In 2014, the former first overall pick threw for 4,410 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
