Titans' Marcus Mariota on contract talks: 'It's going to take some time'

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota remains the only first-round pick from the 2015 draft class yet to sign his rookie contract, but is unfazed by the glacial proceedings.

With the Titans' training camp slated to begin on July 30, time is running out for Mariota to ink a contract.

However, the reigning Heisman Trophy recipient is ready for a long, arduous process.

"Obviously, it's a business deal," Mariota said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, according to FOX Sports' Alex Marvez. "It's going to take some time. That's why you hire your agent."

Mariota was selected second overall in the 2015 draft and immediately became the face of a franchise largely devoid of stars. In the event Mariota's holdout extends through training camp and into the season, Zach Mettenberger will likely start Week 1 for the Titans.

Titans general manager Ruston Webster said last week that he doesn't anticipate major difficulties in signing Mariota. But as long as the Oregon product remains unsigned, his status will be a source of anxiety for Titans fans with the season rapidly approaching.
