Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Michael Oher rose to fame when a movie based on his life was released in 2009. "The Blind Side" made more than $300 million at the box office, and made Oher into a celebrity. But his opinion on the film may surprise you.

Oher told reporters Wednesday after practice that he doesn't like the impact the movie has had on his career.

"This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not ... that has nothing to do with football. It's something else off the field. That's why I don't like that movie. That's taken away from my football,'' Oher said. "That's why people criticize me. That's why people look at me every single play.''

Sandra Bullock took home an Oscar for her portrayal of a woman that took a homeless teenager into her home. The story garnered national attention thanks to the film, but it has left a bad taste in the mouth of the 29-year-old.

"I'm not trying to prove anything,'' Oher said. "People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don't really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That's why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field."

Oher's play may have also had something to do with it. The former first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens has struggled mightily in recent years, bottoming out with the Tennessee Titans in 2014. After signing a four-year, $20-million deal, he was released after only one season.

The veteran will now attempt to prove he can still play, while protecting Cam Newton's blindside.
