Michael Vick: Last year was a wake-up call for me

After being relegated to bench duties behind Geno Smith for most of last season, former New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick finds himself without a job.

Vick will turn 35 next month and there's not much of a market for an aging quarterback coming off one of the worst statistical seasons of his career. But Vick isn't ready to call it quits just yet.

"I still feel like I can help a football team win a couple of games," Vick told Ed Miller of the Virginian-Pilot on Wednesday.

Vick has been working out at a facility in Florida owned by former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers and is looking to improve his durability by adding five or six pounds of muscle.

"Sometimes, it takes certain things to wake you up and (last year) was certainly a wake-up call for me," he said.

Vick insists his arm is stronger than it's ever been and that he's as fast as can be expected at his age. He points to performances against the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers last season as evidence that he still has plenty left in the tank.

"I put up pretty good numbers and played well and didn't turn the ball over," he said. "The focus was there, so I know I can do it."

Now, he just needs to get the call.
