Former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody is scheduled to appear in court in August on felony animal cruelty and misdemeanor drug charges.

Cody and his girlfriend have been assigned an Aug. 11 court date in Baltimore County Circuit Court, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports. The couple is facing a total of 15 criminal counts.

Cody was arrested in February after allegedly torturing and causing the death of his bullmastiff, according to a Baltimore County grand jury indictment. He was released by the Ravens after being indicted.

The indictment states that Cody failed to provide the dog "with nutritious food in (sufficient) quantity," "proper drink," "proper space," or "necessary veterinary care."

Cody also illegally imported an alligator into Maryland and failed to provide the animal with "nutritious food," "necessary veterinary care," or "proper space, proper shelter and proper drink," according to the indictment.

Illegally importing an alligator is a misdemeanor charge and is punishable by a $1,000 fine if convicted. The two felony counts of animal cruelty carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison per count and up to $5,000 in fines.
