Ryan Tannehill: Dolphins receivers 'definitely the most athletic group we've had'

Coming off an offseason in which the Miami Dolphins made a point of revamping what's been a relatively disappointing receiving corps, Ryan Tannehill appears to like what he sees.

The Dolphins quarterback, working with his offense at the start of the club's OTAs Tuesday, indicated that the new-look group is easily the best he's been a part of yet.

"I think especially in our skill positions, guys I'm throwing the ball to," Tannehill told reporters after practice. "As far as natural pass-catchers, guys that snag the ball with their hands and are athletic, I think it's definitely the most athletic group we've had."

While such praise being shared for teammates isn't unusual at this point in the offseason, the significant upgrades Miami made certainly warrant the recognition.

DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills, and Greg Jennings have joined second-year receiver Jarvis Landry to form one of the league's most talented groups out wide, while tight ends Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims give the offense additional pass-catchers capable of stretching the field down the seams.

Parker, the Dolphins' 2015 first-round draft selection, was particularly impressive in Tuesday's on-field work.

"DeVante was great today," Tannehill said. "You've been seeing it the past few weeks, just working on air. But today you got to see him make some tough catches with defenders on his back, in traffic, and that's what you want to see, that a guy with a big body is able to make strong catches with his hands in traffic."

With an already strong defense adding a dominant presence in Ndamukong Suh up front, the Dolphins should be able to limit opposing offenses on a fairly consistent basis this season.

Should the additions made on the offensive side of the ball pay off, allowing Tannehill to further his development as he heads into his fourth NFL campaign, it would be no surprise to see the Dolphins get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
