Randall Telfer could miss a couple of weeks of the regular season while recovering from a Lisfranc injury, Cleveland.com reports.

Telfer is expected to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list while recovering from offseason foot surgery, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Analysis:

Telfer was picked in the sixth round by the Cleveland Browns in 2015 NFL draft, and had an opportunity to compete for a backup tight end role heading into training camp. It now sounds as if he'll be stuck on the PUP list, and is at risk of staying there for the start of the regular season, as head coach Mike Pettine admitted that the rookie will miss "a good chunk" of time. The USC product is seemingly ahead of schedule in his recovery, but a player who suffers this type of Lisfranc injury typically needs 4-to-6 months of rehab. In his absence, Jim Dray, Gary Barnidge and fellow rookie Malcolm Johnson should each have a better opportunity to earn a roster spot as the backup to presumed starter, Rob Housler. That pecking order remains subject to change, however.
