Report: Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan underwent offseason knee surgery

The Washington Redskins will be without their top pass rusher for a portion of OTAs.

Ryan Kerrigan underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his knee and is expected to miss some time, according to CSN Washington. The injury is not considered serious and Kerrigan isn't expected to be sidelined long. He'd been experiencing soreness in the joint.

The former Pro Bowler told reporters he would be re-evaluated next week to determine what kind of timetable is expected for his recovery.

Kerrigan posted an impressive 13.5 sacks last season, picking up the slack for an injured Brian Orakpo. Washington will rely on Kerrigan even more this season with Orakpo off to the Tennessee Titans.

The Redskins and Kerrigan are reportedly discussing a contract extension that would keep the pass rusher in Washington for the foreseeable future.
