Steven Jackson wants to play for contender in 2015

Steven Jackson remains without a team now over two months after being released from the Atlanta Falcons, but the veteran running back appears intent on playing at least one more season if he can manage to draw interest from a contender.

As the 31-year-old recently explained to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, the fact that he's yet to play on a winning team at the NFL level still has him searching for that opportunity.

"That's the thing," Jackson said. "I have all the things I've accomplished personally, but I've still never been on a team that won more than eight games. That would be definitely one of the things that I'm looking for is that opportunity in my next chapter."

Whether or not Jackson finds the situation he's in search of remains to be seen, as the NFL has been anything but kind to running backs who find themselves on the wrong side of 30.

At the same time, the 11-year veteran's combination of physicality, experience and leadership could conceivably earn him a rotational role for a team at some point before the 2015 campaign gets underway.

Though Jackson struggled to live up to expectations during his two-year stint in Atlanta, his eight consecutive 1,000-yard seasons with the St. Louis Rams after first earning the starting job in 2005 will long have him considered one of the most consistent running backs of his era.
