Jarrett Bush indicates tenure with Packers is likely over

Jarrett Bush compiled nine excellent seasons with the Green Bay Packers, but it appears his tenure with the storied club is likely over.

The free agent cornerback hasn't signed with a club yet, and the Packers gave away his number 24 to Quinten Rollins, who was selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Bush reflected on his impending plans Wednesday.

"They've got some young guys and it seems like that's the direction they want to go," Bush said to Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I've got a lot of respect for those guys and a lot of love for them. If they come calling, I'm going to come running. But at the same time, I can't wait around. I have a family that has to eat. If need be, I'll have to open up a new chapter of my career and I'm OK with that."

Bush is most famous for his standout performance in Super Bowl XLV where he recorded an interception of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger en route to a 31-25 victory.

The 30-year-old appeared to hold no ill will towards the Packers organization for giving away his number.

"I knew that was coming," Bush said. "When you draft some rookies, I've seen guys in the past who have left the team and, boom, right away their number is given to another guy. It doesn't surprise me. I just hope that that rookie, that player represents the number, the reputation I put out there. I just hope that the next guy who wears No. 24 goes out there, represents, competes hard and plays a winning, championship style of football. Other than that, you have to open up the next chapter."

Bush recorded 16 tackles in 15 games for the Packers last season, playing a mere 45 snaps. The veteran cornerback indicated that the Detroit Lions, New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers expressed interest in signing him.

At this juncture of his career, Bush is best used as a rotational cornerback for a team in desperate need of a defensive back. Entering his 10th season, Bush can take solace in putting together an excellent career.
