Texans' Bill O'Brien: 'We have a lack of conditioning'

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is not pleased with his incoming rookies' lack of physical stamina. O'Brien, entering his second season with the Texans, did not mince words when asked about seeing third-round selection Jaelen Strong for the first time.

“We have a lack of conditioning, so these guys need to get in better shape as a whole,” O’Brien said Saturday, according to Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle.

O'Brien didn't let up when asked who was in the best shape of those attending minicamp. He joked it was the longsnapper, quipping, "He snapped a lot of footballs."

These comments seem to be a tone setter for the notoriously no-nonsense coach. He made sure to add that the Texans rookies “ain’t seen nothing yet,” when he was told some felt it was too hot during Friday's afternoon period.

Hoping to improve on an impressive 9-7 debut, O'Brien is changing the culture in Houston. The Texans had a solid draft, adding corner Kevin Johnson and linebacker Benardrick McKinney in the first two rounds, and receivers in the third and fifth. It seems complacency won't be tolerated with this draft class.
