Giants draft UConn receiver Geremy Davis in sixth round

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) The Giants gave themselves some insurance against a repeat injury to Victor Cruz with sixth-round wide receiver Geremy Davis of UConn.

Davis, a bulky 6-2, 216, is a proficient route-runner who can catch the ball in traffic over the middle. He had one of the most prolific seasons for a receiver in school history in 2013 with 71 catches for 1,085 yards and three touchdowns, but was slowed last year by a high ankle sprain and finished with 44 catches for 521 yards and three touchdowns.

Despite catching a pass in each of his 46 career games, the 186th overall pick is not considered a prototype receiver. A lack of overall speed prohibits him from escaping man coverage, and he lacks the athleticism to separate from defenders. Still, he finished as UConn's top receiver in the FBS era and among the top six in program history with 165 catches for 2,292 yards and seven TDs.

His physical nature and his weight, however, could lead to the Giants to switch him to tight end, where he would compete with veterans Daniel Fells and Adrien Robinson.
