Report: Chargers, Titans haven't discussed Philip Rivers trade

Brad Barr / USA TODAY Sports

If the San Diego Chargers and Tennessee Titans are to work out a swap of Philip Rivers and the second overall pick in the draft, the two sides better pick up the phone and start talking.

Despite widespread rumors suggesting a trade is likely, the teams have yet to broach the topic with each other, a Chargers team source told U-T San Diego's Michael Gehlken

Trades can happen in a hurry, but if the two teams truly haven't discussed the parameters of a trade, it's hard to imagine them working out a blockbuster before the draft.

Complicating matters is the fact that it's difficult to ascertain which team would owe the other more in compensation. Some analysts suggest the Titans could reasonably demand Rivers, the Chargers' No. 17 pick and more for the second overall selection. Others have argued Rivers, a bona fide franchise quarterback (albeit one in his mid-30s) is worth multiple first-round picks.

It's not a debate the two teams are overtly interested in having. Chargers general manager Tom Telesco insisted this week that Rivers is not on the block, saying his plan is for Rivers to remain with the team "for a long, long, long time."
