Ravens, Jimmy Smith agree to reported 4-year, $48-million extension

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE / Reuters

The Baltimore Ravens and cornerback Jimmy Smith have reached a verbal agreement on a long-term contract extension.

The deal is a four-year extension worth $48 million over five years, according to Pro Football Talk, with $21 million guaranteed.

Smith, 26, missed eight games in 2014 due to a Lisfranc injury. He is reportedly still recovering from the ailment but is expected to be ready by the start of the regular season.

Before his injury, Smith had been playing at a Pro Bowl level. With Smith out of the lineup, the Ravens' secondary struggled mightily.
