Packers sign free-agent quarterback Matt Blanchard

The Green Bay Packers added some competition to the bottom of their quarterback depth chart with the signing of free agent Matt Blanchard, agent Paul Sheehy announced Wednesday.

Blanchard, 26, first joined the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2012 before spending the past two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

He's still yet to appear in an NFL game, and would be unlikely to do so in Green Bay, but Blanchard will have an opportunity to earn a roster spot as the third quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and Scott Tolzien.

The Packers may also be looking to address their backup spot in the upcoming draft, as the team has reportedly held a private workout with Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty.
