AFC West Notebook: Berry remains upbeat in cancer fight; San Diego fighting to keep team

Denver Broncos 

Elway focused on long-term deal for Thomas. The Denver Broncos placed their franchise tag on star wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, ensuring that he stays with the club for one more year. However, general manager John Elway is trying to keep Thomas for the remainder of his career

NFL revised Broncos' compensatory pick. The NFL mistakenly awarded the Broncos a compensatory sixth-round pick, and changed the team's imminent selection to a seventh-round pick upon realizing their error

Anderson retains starting spot. C.J. Anderson has stiff competition for the Broncos' starting running back role, with Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman breathing down his neck. However, head coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Anderson will enter the offseason as the team's starter. 

Kansas City Chiefs

Reid wants Kelce to bulk up. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid asked tight end Travis Kelce to gain 15 pounds entering next season. Kelce is known for his ability in the open field, and Reid says the extra weight will help with pass protection.

Berry remains upbeat despite cancer. Members of the Chiefs' personnel have met with star safety Eric Berry, who is battling Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of cancer. The team added that they're solely focused on his recovery.

Fisher enters make-or-break year. Former first overall pick Eric Fisher hasn't exactly met expectations through his first two seasons, and he's hoping to make a Pro Bowl in his third campaign

San Diego Chargers

City, county working to keep team in San Diego. With reports surfacing that the Chargers appear poised to move to Los Angeles, the city and country are working in tandem to keep the club in San Diego. 

Chargers not looking to add running back. The Chargers aren't looking to replace Ryan Mathews, who moved to Philadelphia in free agency. Head coach Mike McCoy said he's content with the trio the team already has. 

Spanos refutes speculation about trading Rivers. Chargers owner Dean Spanos spoke on a number of subjects, including his desire to keep the team in San Diego. He also denied reports about looking to trade quarterback Philip Rivers.

Oakland Raiders

Wilson re-signs with Raiders. Defensive end C.J. Wilson tweeted that he would be re-signing with the Raiders. Wilson recorded 23 tackles and two sacks in his lone season with Oakland. 

Raiders may share Levi's Stadium. The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders have had a frosty relationship in years' past, but they may become familiar with one another. Oakland may share Levi's Stadium with the 49ers, the new stadium San Francisco unveiled last season. 

Murray, Richardson battle for starting role. Trent Richardson and Latavius Murray will battle for the team's starting job, with head coach Jack Del Rio embracing a competition between the two backs
