Broncos consider limiting Peyton Manning's workload in 2015

Peyton Manning will be returning to play at least one more season before deciding to call at a career, but the Denver Broncos may have some new ideas about how to keep him at his best throughout.

Coming off a year in which Manning's level of play fell off due to injury, new head coach Gary Kubiak has spoken with him about possible adjustments to keep both his body and mind in peak condition, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

While it doesn't appear as though the Broncos are considering any adjustments to Manning's in-game availability, Kubiak could look to limit the quarterback's workload in team meetings, practices and training camp, much like he did late in John Elway's career.

"I think as a coach you have to make those suggestions to players," Kubiak said at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday. "But sometimes with the great ones, the reason they're great is you have to battle them on things like that because they're used to being a part of it every day."

Doing so with Manning may prove difficult given his elite-level work ethic and desire to be involved in every aspect of the offense, but it's a tactic that could benefit both he and the team in the long run.

Elway led the Broncos to consecutive Super Bowls after adjustments were made to his workload at the end of his career, and the team is now hoping to find similar success with Manning heading into the 18th and potentially final season of his Hall of Fame career.
