Rex Ryan says Bills, Eagles took 30 minutes to agree on LeSean McCoy trade

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills shocked the football world by acquiring star running back LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, and it appears the club jumped at the chance to work out a deal when the opportunity presented itself.

Speaking with reporters at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday, Bills head coach Rex Ryan said the team was stunned to learn that McCoy was available, and that the trade between the two teams took all of 30 minutes to finalize from that point.

NFL trades are rare and often quite complicated, but the Bills evidently had no reservations about parting with young linebacker Kiko Alonso if it meant they could land the 2013 rushing champion in return.

Though McCoy is coming off somewhat of a down year with the Eagles, he's still just 26 years old and gives Buffalo the kind of elite-level backfield talent the offense can be built around for years to come.

Having added both McCoy and some other dynamic playmakers in wide receiver Percy Harvin and tight end Charles Clay, the Bills now have the makings of an offense that could help the team take the next step toward contention.
