Report: Browns' Johnny Manziel expected to leave rehab in early April

Johnny Manziel may be leaving treatment very shortly.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback is expected to be released from rehab in early April and will participate in offseason workouts, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer also believes Manziel will be present for the April 20 workouts.

"I don't think it's in doubt," Farmer said. "Again, I'm not the point person in that. So I would defer to those kind of controlling his care and let them decide what that looks likes."

Manziel has been in treatment since early February.

The Browns brought in Josh McCown to compete with Manziel for the starting job and tutor the second-year player.

Farmer is still hoping Manziel will step up and claim the No. 1 job.

"If he is prepared and he demonstrates the things that he needs to demonstrate, then yeah he should get every opportunity to be the guy."

Manziel clearly wasn't prepared to play in his rookie season and looked lost in two starts late in 2014. A full offseason program will be critical for the signal caller to take the next step in his development.
