Jason Pierre-Paul: Receives Franchise Tag

Pierre-Paul received the Giants' franchise tag for the 2015 season Monday, Albert Breer of NFL Network reports.

Analysis:

Pierre-Paul was expected to receive the tag if the two sides couldn't reach a long-term contract extension prior to the deadline. Since the latter hasn't materialized, the former has. It's likely that Pierre-Paul won't sign the tag right away as the two sides continue to negotiate for a longer deal. If that doesn't occur, the 26-year-old would end up making $14.8 million in 2015. Pierre-Paul finished the 2014 campaign with 12.5 sacks, 77 tackles, and three forced fumbles, which was much improved over the 2013 season, when he was only able to take the field in 11 of 16 games and start six.
