Vikings GM Rick Spielman: 'We've had open dialogue (with Adrian Peterson)'

Adrian Peterson's future with the Minnesota Vikings remains murky, but Thursday's legal victory has at least opened the communication lines between the two sides.

Speaking at the University of Minnesota's pro day Monday, general manager Rick Spielman said the Vikings are now able to engage in talks with Peterson.

"We've had open dialogue," Spielman said, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I'll just leave it at that.''

Spielman's comments come five days after U.S. District Judge David Doty ruled in favor of the NFLPA's request to vacate the indefinite suspension handed down to Peterson by the NFL. The league appealed the decision and returned Peterson to the commissioner's exempt list, allowing the Vikings to communicate with him.

"We'll keep all those communications internal. I don't want to sit here and give you guys a blow-by-blow every day," Spielman said. "I think it's very clearly stated that we want Adrian Peterson back. There's no question about the talent and he's a unique talent and he's under contract with us."

Peterson's father, Nelson Peterson, told the Pioneer Press recently that his son is open to returning to the Vikings and has not demanded a trade. However, Nelson Peterson also said that he has heard rumors listing the Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys as potential landing spots for his son.

Asked Monday if there's a rift between the Vikings and Peterson, Spielman replied, "I'm not going to get into anything on that front."
