While the NFL plans to appeal a federal judge's ruling that overturned Peterson's suspension, the Vikings and Peterson can talk about a new contract while he remains on the Commissioner's exempt list during the appeal process.

The ruling from U.S. District Court Judge David Doty overturned the suspension, but sent the case back to the NFL to make a ruling that was consistent with the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and NFLPA.
