Seahawks' Pete Carroll will receive honorary degree from USC

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will receive an honorary degree from USC at commencement.

It's somewhat ironic that Carroll is getting a degree from the university seeing as his wins from the 2005-06 season were vacated in 2010 after the NCAA ruled that Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush received improper benefits.

USC was also banned from bowl games for two seasons and the football program has yet to return to the juggernaut that Carroll built during his nine-year tenure.

Carroll has long been a proponent of USC talent, drafting Super Bowl XLVIII MVP Malcolm Smith in the seventh round and signing undrafted depth linebacker Mike Morgan to the active roster.

The 63-year-old is one of three coaches to have won a Super Bowl and a national championship.

Carroll was hired as the Seahawks' head coach in January 2010 and has been instrumental in leading the club to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Moreover, Carroll has used his nearly unparalleled knowledge of defensive back techniques to build the Legion of Boom into the most ferocious unit in the league.
