The New York Giants announced Wednesday that running back Peyton Hillis has been released.

Hillis joined the Giants in October 2013 after David Wilson suffered a season-ending neck injury. He appeared in nine games last season, rushing for 115 yards on 26 carries, before landing on injured reserve with a concussion. He also caught 10 passes for 87 yards.

By releasing Hillis, the Giants save $945,000 against the salary cap, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
