Report: Bills showing interest in Charles Clay ahead of free agency

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

Widely expected to be in search of a tight end this offseason, the Buffalo Bills appear to be showing interest in an impending free agent from the division-rival Miami Dolphins.

Though free agency doesn't officially open until March 10, the Bills are already known to be taking a look at Dolphins tight end Charles Clay, according to Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News.

At 26 years old, now having established himself as a capable every-down player, Clay won't have any shortage of suitors on the open market.

However, the Bills' early interest and clear need at the position should have them among the teams with a legitimate chance to sign him and thus bring in the reliable middle-of-the-field target the offense desires.

Clay finished the 2014 campaign with 58 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns and has appeared in 58 games over the course of his four-year NFL career.
