Report: Cowboys' Rolando McClain facing 4-game fine

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain is facing a four-game fine for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The NFL's new substance abuse policy dictates that a player must fail four tests before facing a four-game ban, and that three failed tests would dictate a fine.

Schefter and Todd Archer write:

The fine could affect the type of contract McClain receives even if it will not keep him off the field to start the 2015 season. The sources said McClain is appealing the fine. According to the league's new substance abuse policy, a player is fined for a third failed test. Another failed test would be a four-game suspension.

McClain is set to become a free agent on March 10.

This is a setback for the reclamation project out of Alabama, who turned his career around with the Cowboys after being out of the league for one season.
