Pete Carroll is going to miss Jim Harbaugh

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh have developed quite the rivalry over the years, and Carroll -  head coach of the Seattle Seahawks - is sad to see it end.

"I’m going to miss him. I saw Jim as an extraordinary competitor and I loved what he brought out in us. We’ve had a lot of games over the years and I appreciate that," Carroll told Michael David Smith from Pro Football Talk.

The two first got acquainted when Carroll was coaching at USC and Harbaugh at Stanford. Their rivalry amped up when the pair was in the NFC West.

Harbaugh departed the San Francisco 49ers for the University of Michigan this offseason and Carroll knows it won't take him long to turn the program around.

"It won’t take them long to be able to be fighting for something. Jim just knows how to get that done," Carroll said.

Perhaps their paths will cross again one day, but for now we'll just have the memories of awkward post-game handshakes to hold onto.
