Bears noncommittal on Jay Cutler's future with team

New Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace chose his words very carefully when asked Wednesday whether Jay Cutler will be his starting quarterback in 2015.

"We're going to take our time on this," Pace told reporters, mentioning repeatedly that his team still has several weeks of roster evaluation ahead of it.

Pace said he and new Bears head coach John Fox have met with Cutler and are still figuring out what kind of person the quarterback is and where he fits in the team's plans.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like the Bears are far from committed to a player they still owe a reported $15.5 million in guaranteed cash (a figure that balloons to $25.5 million if Cutler is still on the roster on March 12).

Pace took a similarly noncommittal stance when asked about other veterans including Brandon Marshall, Charles Tillman and Lance Briggs.
