Report: Bears meeting with Josh McCown on Wednesday

Melina Vastola / USA TODAY Sports

With the future of their quarterback position now very much in question, the Chicago Bears appear to be the latest team showing interest in veteran free agent Josh McCown.

The Bears coaching staff is reportedly meeting with McCown over breakfast at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

As is the case for many of the teams showing interest thus far, the Bears could conceivably envision McCown as either a starter or a backup in their offense going forward.

Pursuing the 35-year-old as a short-term starter would, of course, only be possible if the Bears were to move on from Jay Cutler, but such a situation remains possible with a new front office and coaching staff now in place.

McCown spent three seasons in Chicago from 2011-13, where his efficient play earned him a free-agent deal from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Though the Bucs opted to part ways with McCown following a disappointing 2014 campaign, the 12-year veteran's experience has quickly generated significant interest from a number of quarterback-needy teams around the league.
