Lewis has not been confirmed as the Texans' backup quarterback yet, the Houston Chronicle reports. The Duke product was signed earlier this week after Ryan Mallett was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.

Analysis:

Head coach Bill O'Brien, who was an offensive coordinator at Duke when Lewis was there, wants to see how much of the system the quarterback grasps in his first practice week before declaring him the top backup.
