While it may not have been the most convincing of victories, the San Francisco 49ers still managed to come away with a 17-13 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday. The 49ers move to 7-4 and keep pace in the strong NFC West with their third straight win, while the Redskins drop to 3-8 and appear to have already seen their season slip away.
Here's what you need to know:
- The 49ers defense once again carried the team, tallying five sacks and limiting the Redskins to just 213 yards of total offense.
- Leading the way was linebacker Aldon Smith in his second game back from suspension, responsible for two of those quarterback takedowns and notching a total of four quarterback hits.
- Continuing to stand out in place of Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman at inside linebacker, rookie Chris Borland tallied another eight tackles, including two for a loss.
- 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick came away with a decent stat line, completing 20-of-29 passes for 256 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but the offense continues to leave some plays on the field.
- Wide receiver Anquan Boldin carried the 49ers' passing game, leading all players with nine catches for 137 yards and one touchdown.
- Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III continues to struggle, as he completed just 11-of-19 pass attempts for 106 yards and was held without a touchdown.
- The Redskins were able to keep the game close with a standout performance from running back Alfred Morris, as the third-year pro put together his best game of the year, totaling 125 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries.
