Cowboys alone atop NFC East after beating Giants

The Dallas Cowboys find themselves alone atop the NFC East after defeating the New York Giants 31-21.

Dallas has now won six in a row after an opening-week loss and their ball-control offense continues to help out an average defense. Of course, getting two touchdown catches from Gavin Escobar didn't hurt either.

The Cowboys were powered by the usual suspects, Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray. Bryant made nine catches for 151 yards and Murray ran for 128 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.

Murray has now run for more than 100 yards in seven straight games to start a season, setting an NFL record.

Murray broke the record of six games previously held by Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown.

Rams upset Seahawks

It took everything the St. Louis Rams had, but they came away with a shocking 28-26 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Rams took advantage of a trick punt return that went for a touchdown and a key fake punt late in the fourth quarter to overcome an impressive performance by Russell Wilson.

Wilson became the first player in NFL history to run for more than 100 yards and throw for more than 300, but it wasn't enough.

Seattle has now lost two straight games and is falling behind the pace in the NFC West.

Surprising Results

The Kansas City Chiefs snapped the San Diego Chargers five-game winning streak and Jamaal Charles set a franchise record in the process.

Charles became the Chiefs' all-time leading rusher after scoring a 16-yard touchdown, passing Priest Holmes' mark of 6,070 yards.

His efforts helped Kansas City to a 23-20 win and got them back to .500, possibly salvaging their season in the process.

Over in Jacksonville, the Jaguars picked up their first win of the season after capitalizing on several Browns miscues.

Cleveland looked like it was starting to turn a corner after dominating the Steelers last week, so losing 24-6 to a previously winless squad is certainly a disappointing result.

If Cleveland was disappointed, its in-state rivals would have to be devastated. The Cincinnati Bengals were thoroughly embarrassed 27-0 by the Indianapolis Colts.

Andrew Luck continues to post big numbers, with 344 yards passing and two scores versus the Bengals. His favorite target, T.Y. Hilton, caught seven balls for 107 yards.

Sure, the Bengals were missing A.J. Green, but with just a single loss coming in, a shutout loss was unexpected.

Packers dominate Panthers

The matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers was supposed to be a showdown between offense and defense, but it ended up being a one-sided affair.

The Packers jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back, scoring on their first three drives. Aaron Rodgers went 19-of-22 for 255 yards and three touchdowns, but was pulled out of the game before he could add to his stats.

Carolina has just one win in the last five games and a once vaunted defense is now looking pretty ordinary.

Injury Roundup

The Buffalo Bills' backfield took a major hit today, as Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller were both carted off the field.

Jackson suffered a groin injury and Spiller reportedly broke his collarbone. The offseason acquisition of Bryce Brown is looking like it will come in handy.

Other notable injuries:

  • Trent Richardson couldn't finish the game because of a hamstring injury.
  • The Bears lost Kyle Fuller to a hip ailment.
  • Vontaze Burfict's bad luck continues as he was lost to a neck issue.
  • Brian Orakpo will have an MRI on his pectoral muscle.
  • Jon Beason left with a toe injury. He's battled a toe issue since OTAs.
  • Paul Posluszny has a pectoral strain.
  • Brandon Flowers suffered a concussion.
  • Pierre Thomas went down with a shoulder injury.
