Jerry Jones: Cowboys plan to 'challenge' Richard Sherman

The Dallas Cowboys will be going into one of the toughest places to play on Sunday when they visit the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field and, according to team owner Jerry Jones, they'll go win with guns blazing.

While the Green Bay Packers elected to avoid the Seahawks' top cornerback Richard Sherman in the season opener, the Cowboys plan to go right at him Sunday.

"With all of the respect we have for him, we're going to have to give him some business over there or we will hurt the balance of what we can do relative to certainly the passing game," Cowboys' owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday on 105.3 FM The Fan, via ESPN

"We can't run from him. That's easy to say and hard to do. We got to challenge him and make him at least cover us one-on-one and Dez of course is the guy who can do it. So I don't see us compromising the rest of our offense by running from Sherman like that."

The Seahawks play mostly in zone defense with Sherman manning the defensive left side for the most part, while Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant lines up mostly to the left of the offensive formation, so avoiding Sherman seems doable.

"I know Deion (Sanders) was such a force for us, that people would run from him and it played right into our hands," Jones said. "We had 10 people on nine players a lot of time because of Deion Sanders."

Last weekend, the Cowboys were not afraid to run right at Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, so going after a team's strength isn't an issue for them.

"It's just mindset, you know," Bryant said. "You have to go out there and play this game. No matter who it is, you have to go out there and play, and just like J.J. At the same time, you've got to give him that respect because you know there's a reason we're talking about him and you've got to prepare for players like that."

Bryant does know he'll need to step up his game as he's going against one of the league's top defensive talents.

"He's big, he can run, he got length, you've got to play big," Bryant said. "Like I said, you can't just think you're going to go in there and do this. You have to be well prepared."
