Report: Dolphins sign LaMichael James to practice squad

The Miami Dolphins added some depth to their backfield Tuesday afternoon, signing free agent LaMichael James to their practice squad, according to the running back's agent.

James, a second-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2012, was granted his release by the team in early September when it was clear he couldn't climb past Frank Gore and Carlos Hyde on the team's depth chart.

The 24-year-old Oregon product appeared in 10 games for the 49ers in 2013, rushing for 59 yards on 12 carries while adding another 16 yards on two receptions.
