Report: Buccaneers' McCown has torn ligament in thumb, could miss at least 6 weeks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown has already been ruled out of Sunday's contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers but could miss even more time if he decides to undergo surgery on his injured thumb.

McCown is dealing with a torn ligament, according to ESPN, and plans to test the injury Monday to determine whether the pain is manageable. If surgery is required, he would miss at least six weeks.

McCown was examined by a hand specialist Monday and will be re-evaluated in a week or two.

"We take this thing day by day and, obviously, if it was that pressing of a need, I would have probably already had that done,'' McCown said Thursday. "We're very optimistic with being able to get healthy and move forward.''

Mike Glennon will start Sunday in McCown's absence.
