Eagles' Mychal Kendricks 'very doubtful' for Sunday

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly didn't sound optimistic when discussing the status of injured linebacker Mychal Kendricks ahead of Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

"I don’t know what his status may be until the end of the week. We'll see if there's something he can do tomorrow or maybe Saturday but right now, he's very doubtful," Kelly said, via Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com.

Asked to elaborate on Kendricks' calf injury, Kelly grew agitated.

"Can we get this out of the way? I'm never going to ask [specifics from the doctors], I don't care, just tell me if they can play or can't play. I'm not a doctor. So it's a Grade 32. I don't know what that means, you don't know what that means so I don't care," he said. "I never ask those questions. There's no need for me to ask those questions."

According to McManus, a Grade 32 actually means nothing. Strains are classified as either a Grade 1 (no tear), Grade 2 (partial tear), or Grade 3 (complete tear).

Players who suffer a Grade 1 strain can usually return the following week, while a Grade 3 carries a recovery timetable of four-to-six weeks.

Emmanuel Acho and Casey Matthews have been rotating in with the first-team defense in Kendricks' absence.
