The NFLPA officially filed an appeal Tuesday on behalf of Rice against the indefinite suspension levied on him by the NFL, Albert Breer of NFL.com reports.

Analysis:

Since Rice was already suspended for two games by the NFL prior to his release from the Ravens, he'll appeal on the basis that he's being punished twice for the same domestic assault charge. Given the unprecedented nature of this type of appeal, it's uncertain how things may play out from here or how long it might take to reach a resolution. Even if Rice is ultimately reinstated, it would still seem unlikely that he would end up playing this season, given the PR nightmare his signing would almost certainly create for a team.
